Parish Plan 2023
This plan was put together jointly by Rattery Parish Council, St Maryโs Parochial Church Council, Rattery Village Hall and the Rattery Environment Group. It is based on the feedback from the Evening for Rattery and previous consultations. The feedback was very clear and can be summarised in five aims.
In Rattery we want to:
1. manage the routine things, such as roads, effectively and achieve resilience to deal with climate change.
2. look after the places in the parish that we value.
3. support local businesses.
4. nurture our natural environment.
5. make the parish an enjoyable place to live in, especially for children.
The Parish Council, the Parochial Church Council, The Village Hall, and the Rattery Environment Group will collaborate to achieve the aims set out in this plan and, with your help, implement your ideas and ambitions for the parish.
Aim 1
Provide Effective and Resilient Public Services and Infrastructure
The Parish Council currently focuses on highways, road safety, drainage, litter, parking, footpaths, and the playing field and has a commitment to make the parish more resilient in the face of environmental change. There is more that the new council taking office in May 2023 can do.
Aim 2
Preserve and Enhance Community Assets
These are the things that are important to the community and without which community life would be poorer. The list includes St. Maryโs church, the Church House Inn, the Village Hall, public and permissive footpaths, green lanes, the playing field, the Village Green (carpark), and other open spaces. We can add to these assets, for example by acquiring land or by creating facilities or footpaths.
Aim 3
Support Local Businesses
We should aim to make Rattery a good place in which to run a business, particularly farms and small enterprises and services. The Rattery economy is already diverse and is becoming even more so.
Aim 4
Nurture our Natural Environment
The Parish Council is required to take biodiversity into account in all its decisions and our local charity, the Rattery Environment Group undertakes various projects. Many parishioners take a keen interest in the natural world and everyone would like to see Rattery as a haven for wildlife. There is considerable support for the creation of wildlife reserves, tree planting, and the creation of wild life corridors.
Aim 5
Provide More Recreational Facilities and Activities, particularly for Children and Young People
We have the playing field and the activities in the village hall but there could be other things we might do. There are lots of children and young people in the parish and we should do more for them.
